Chinese Church (hcchome.org) is an urban Chinese heritage church in central Houston established in 1975. We exist to make God-loving and compassionate disciples of Jesus Christ among all nations. In our one church family, you will find three culturally-distinct, language-specific congregations (English, Mandarin, and Cantonese) filled with multiple generations of worshippers, young and old.

Cantonese Pastor/Minister

Houston Chinese Church

Full-time

This person will work with the ministry staff in the planning and implementation of various projects and programs within the church at large.

1. Preaching / Teaching
a. Preach regularly in the Cantonese worship service
b. Teach in Adult Sunday School, fellowship groups and other occasions

2. Leading
a. Provide vision and direction for the various fellowship and/or small groups
b. Work with coworkers to set up strategies to reach out to the community and disciple believers

3. Training
a. Train small group and other leaders in various ministry skills
b. Train members going on mission trips and other projects

4. Caring
a. Visitation
b. Provide counseling to church members as needs arise
c. Hospitality ministry
d. Conduct the church’s baptism and membership process for the Cantonese congregation

5. Administration
a. Plan and strategize different aspects of the ministry
b. Work with the pastoral staff in recruiting individuals with different gifts and talents to serve in different ministries

Relationship: Accountable to the Lead Chinese Pastor and to work closely with the ministry staff
Education: Master of Divinity or equivalent from an accredited seminary
Experience: Prefer 3 or more years of pastoral ministry experience in North America
Langauge: Cantonese fluency and conversational Mandarin and English are required
Marital Status: Married preferred but not required
Convictions: Wholeheartedly affirms HCC’s Articles of Faith, Constitution, Mission, and Core Values

Minister Skills & Qualifications:
1. Communicates God’s Word effectively in preaching and teaching
2. Has a conviction for discipleship and has practiced it both formally and informally
3. Is a team player who listens well yet expresses his thoughts; who respects and submits to others
4. Has the heart of a shepherd and servant; leads by example in his personal, family and ministry life
5. Provides leadership, direction and training, especially in the context of small group ministry
6. Communicates well with others
7. Develops and implements personal and ministry objectives
8. Delegates responsibilities to others and provides supervision
9. Provides counseling (personal growth, premarital and marital) and willing to acquire such skills through additional classes and training
10. Is sensitive to ministry in a Chinese and Western culture/value setting
11. Is able to minister to families at different stages of life
12. Must be a current HCC member or willing to become a member after employment
13. Since HCC values families worshiping together, it is expected that family members (if any) will worship at HCC
